How To Get An Australian Fiancee Visa


With the Prospective Marriage visa or more popularly known as the Australian Fiancee visa, fiancee or fiancés of Australians can stay and get married in the country.

This visa is valid for nine (9) months and the application should be conducted outside Australia.

Benefits of the Australian fiancee visa
  1. Entry to Australia
  2. Visa holders can obtain multiple entries. But after nine (9) months, this privilege is no longer recognized
  3. Employment opportunity
  4. Study opportunity. But the expenses are not covered by the Australian government
  5. Chance to apply for a partner visa
  6. Access to medical benefits. Yet, this is only granted once an application for a partner visa has been made

Eligibility requirements

Meet these criteria to have better chances of visa approval

  1. Both of you should be free of any marital relationship that may impede your marriage
  2. The sponsor should be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen
  3. The couple should get married within nine (9) months
  4. Both should meet the health requirements
  5. The couple should pass the character requirement
  6. The sponsor should possess sufficient financial means to support the applicant’s expenses without relying on government funds
  7. Both should be above 18 years old
  8. The sponsor and applicant should have met personally prior to the application
  9. There should be enough evidences guaranteeing that both of them are eligible to marry
  10. They should have good moral character

Required documents
  1. Form 40SP or Sponsorship for a partner to migrate to Australia
  2. Sponsor-specific requirements
    1. Personal documents
      1. Birth certificate copy
      2. Any passport proving that he or she is a permanent resident of Australia
      3. Other related documents that would support residency in Australia
      4. For citizens of New Zealand, any proof that will show the length of stay in Australia
      5. Copies of income statements or overseas tax assessment notice
      6. Employer letter stating the sponsor’s annual income and employment length
      7. For self-employed sponsors, an accountant’s letter should be obtained
      8. Pay slips
      9. If the sponsor had previous petition applications or previously signed an Assurance of Support (AoS), he or she should provide a letter that outlines the following information

        1. Relationship with those individuals
        2. Reasons behind the relationship breakdown
        3. Dates of the sponsorship and AoS signing

      10. Applicant-specific requirement

        1. Personal documents
          1. Passport and travel documents. The same requirement applies to individuals who will be travelling with the applicant
          2. Copies of birth certificates
          3. Four (4) passport photos (45mm x 35 mm)
          4. Two (2) passport photos of the fiance
  3. Health documents
  4. Character documents

Application procedures
  1. Pass the eligibility requirement
  2. Obtain the required documents
  3. Complete the application form
  4. Take the medical exam
  5. Pay all fees
  6. Submit the application form and the documents
  7. Wait for the approval
