The Embassy of the Commonwealth of Australia in the Philippines

Australia and the Philippines have been ‘friends’ for so long already. The good relationship between the two countries can be traced in the history of both countries. It has been enjoying bilateral agreements with each other for so long, strengthening the bond between the two nations.

So in order to further reinforce the bond between the two countries, the Commonwealth of Australia established the Australian Embassy in the Philippine lands. Led by Australian Ambassador Rod Smith, the embassy aims to promote better relationship with the Philippine government through its assistance and services to the Filipino people, while protecting the welfare and interests of its citizens in the Philippines.

Basically, the Australian embassy is an extension of the Australian government to its citizens in the Philippines. It assures its people of a safe and well-guided living in this Southeast Asian country. However, the embassy’s services are not limited to such.

Consular Service

Many Filipinos want to go to Australia – for business, tourism, migration, etc. However, it is not just as easy as crossing the street. It requires visa; and this is where the primary role of the Australian embassy to the Philippines enters. Immigration and non-immigration services are offered by the Australian government to the Filipinos through the embassy.

Applications for visas to Australia are screened and approved by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Manila. But everything still depends on the decision of the immigration officer in the Australian Embassy in the Philippines.

The embassy practices strict and rigid laws on visa applicants, in spite of the harmonious relationship Australia has with the Philippines. For this reason, many are trying to circumvent the laws. However, it has to be understood that the Australian embassy implements severe sanctions on those proven to commit fraud. When worst comes to worst, the offender may be blacklisted and may be totally banned from entering the foreign country.

The Embassy of the Commonwealth of Australia in the Philippines is located at Level 23, Tower 2 RCBC Plaza, 6819 Ayala Avenue, Makati City 1200. It is just a few minute-drive away from the intersection of Gil Puyat and Ayala.
