Roam Freely With A Schengen Visitor Visa

Since the implementation of the Schengen Agreement, the so-called “free movement” of individuals in Schengen states became a privilege of both European and non-European citizens. The creation of the Schengen visa allowed travellers to go to Schengen states with this document alone. Although entities outside Europe are required to submit specific records and certificates, it cannot be denied that the application procedures of this visa are easier compared to others.

Philippines is one of the countries required to obtain a Schengen visa to enter the Schengen zones. Once approved, Filipinos can roam around Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.

Category C Schengen visa

Schengen visas are divided into different categories and Category C proves to be the most popular and recommended to many visitors. This is also known as a short-term stay.

Category C permits an individual to stay for 90 days or 3 months in all Schengen states. Visa holders of this type can conduct single or multiple visits in those territories. It is also important to note that the 90-day period must be utilized within 6 months.

Requirements

  1. Application form – Filipino applicants must identify the Schengen state that they intend to visit. Application forms can be only obtained in embassies and consulates.
  2. Passport with 6 months validity
  3. Two (2) clear photos. The picture should have a white background with the applicant’s name written at the back.
  4. A travel insurance worth of €30,000.

The embassy or consulate may also require the applicant to prepare additional records or certificates such as:

  1. Affidavit of support, this is applicable to those who are sponsored by their friends
  2. Employed applicants must show their Income Tax Returns (ITR) and employment certificate
  3. On the other hand self-employed applicants should prepare their business permits and ITR. For those who have renewed their businesses, submit both the original document and its photocopies
  4. Evidence of financial sources. Bank statements or certificates and other documents related to this one should be furnished

Application procedures

  1. Go to the concerned embassy or consulate and schedule an appointment
  2. Pay the application fee
  3. During the appointment, present the requirements
  4. Wait for the approval

Usually, the application process takes 14 days or 2 weeks. Filipino applicants are encouraged to completely sign their application forms and gather all the documents that they need to submit. If an interview is required, answer the questions with all honesty and sincerity.

Visa benefits

Evidently, one of the most prominent benefits of the Schengen visa is mobility. One can roam around Schengen states without going through the hassles of applying for different visas.
