The Filipinos Guide To Understanding US Tourist Visa

A US visitor visa is under the non-immigrant visa category. Holders of this document will be staying in the country for a shorter period of time. There are two kinds of US visitor visas. These are:

  1. B-1 - this visa is designed to individuals who will visit the US for business purposes
  2. B-2 - on the other hand, applies to those whose entry in the US is purely for leisure and medical treatment

Eligibility requirements
Filipinos applying for a US visitor visa should meet these eligibility requirements. The failure to comply with these prerequisites can result to denial. It should be remembered that every individual who enters the United States is assumed to have plans of staying permanently in the country.

  1. The visit is mainly for business, tourism and medical purposes
  2. Applicants must assure that they would not overstay in the country
  3. Sufficient financial means to cover their everyday expenses
  4. Strong economic  and social ties outside the United States that would guarantee their return
  5. Should be a lawful resident of their country

Documentation
The US embassy readily require all applicants to submit the following documents

  1. DS-160 Online application form
  2. A passport that is valid for six (6) months
  3. One 2x2 photo with white background
  4. If applicable, present certificates that you are granted to have an extension of stay or status change
  5. Lastly, if applying with a dependent or for a dependent, you should submit a marriage or birth certificate

Specific requirements
Aside from the above-mentioned documents, visitor visas also require specific documents. This is most especially true for those who will be seeking medical treatment in the US. These are:

  1. Physician’s diagnosis that outlines the patient’s need for a medical treatment in the US
  2. US hospitals that will attend to the foreign patient are likewise required to provide a letter that states their consent or willingness to treat the patient. The letter should also include the medication’s time frame and the fees
  3. Lastly, organizations or individuals who will be sponsoring the treatment should provide proofs of having sufficient income

Tips to get an approval

  1. Do not engage into misrepresentation - Fraud and misrepresentation are penalized by the court. This could even result to being permanently banned to enter the country.
  2. Complete the application forms - As much as possible, do not leave some questions unanswered. If the question does not apply to your situation, put N/A.
  3. Complete all the requirements – Submitting incomplete documents is a sure ticket to visa denial
